The Sona Pillow® is to be used for sleeping. The purpose of the pillow is to maintain a side sleeping position. The pillow consists of two surfaces – the primary sleep surface, which is inclined on two sides and a bottom surface with open recesses for your arm.
Figure 1 |
To use the Sona Pillow, lie on either side of
your body. The striped side of the pillow
should always face the foot-end of the bed.
While lying on your side, extend your arm
through the open recess under the pillow,
so that your head is lying in a slanted
position on the pillow (see Figure 1). When
your head is properly positioned, you are
slightly facing downward (looking toward
the mattress) on the inclined surface of the
pillow. Your arm should be kept extended
while sleeping. Your head should be kept
inclined and facing the same side as your
extended arm.
Hugging a body pillow or placing a pillow
between your legs may also help you
maintain a side sleeping position.
When used correctly, the Sona Pillow allows
your jaw to be gently pulled forward by
gravity, and helps stop your jaw from falling
backwards. This position helps to keep your
airway open. Mild sleep apnea and snoring
are more likely to occur when you are lying
on your back. For better results, the Sona
Pillow should be used every time you sleep.
Break-in Period
The Sona Pillow requires a “break-in”
period in which the pillow adjusts to the
contours of your head. The pillow should
be fluffed up periodically by pressing on the
side of the pillow which is not striped. If you
use your Sona Pillow regularly, it is recommended
that you replace it annually.
